She's something out of the ordinary,
Like a fish out of water.
Judge her by her weirdness,
She wouldn't really bother.

An artist, a lady,
with a knack for all things cool.
You'll ogle over this girl,
no doubt she'll make you drool.

Drive: On This Week’s Joyride Playlist

During stressful and tiring days such as these, I like to unwind and listen to the chill music that will always be perfect for long drives to Tagaytay. Today, I present to you 4 of my favorite local indie college bands/artists that I’ve had on repeat since Monday (except for Jensen…although I do wish I had his tracks so they can be on repeat also).

I know I can only say so much about them and I rather have you judge them for yourselves for 1. their talent and 2. their swag and charm. But let me assure you, you won’t regret spending at most 30 minutes to listen to their tracks. I absolutely adore them…and that’s not just because they’re my friends.

To add to that, I find this the perfect time to shamelessly plug Solve the System’s first gig ever at Route 196, Katipunan Ext. on the 25th of February. 3/4 of the bands I’ve mentioned here are playing. I really hope you support the bands performing and Solve the System!

1. She’s Only Sixteen

sos

THEY. DEFINE. HIPSTER. Hihi. But, you have got to admit. These boys definitely got swag and talent. I’m not entirely sure when I first encountered SOS…JUST KIDDING, I do. It was around 1st or 2nd year High School. They were still called False Targets then when someone sent me (through YM, mind you…HOW OLD SCHOOL) their demo track called “Laserlight”. Ever since then, I was a fan of this Artic Monkeys/Phoenix-esque band. At present, their second single Nothing To Say has had 2k+ listens in a little bit more than 24 hours on their sound cloud and has been listened to in more than 29 countries. Yesterday, Feb 8, 2012, They won 2nd place to another kick ass band called Lions and Acrobats at De La Salle University’s Bagyo Berde. Now, if that doesn’t convince you enough why don’t you give them a listen!

****Trivia! Roberto Sena, She’s Only Sixteen’s frontman, is the third of Solve the System’s little trio! Paco, who’s also in a band called Mad Hatter Day, is the other. (I’ll blog about MHD soon, when I get to the heavier side of things.)

2. Luna’s

Luna's

I remember being in Chesca Floirendo’s car flipping through her collection of aMplitunes CDs and being extremely impressed by this song called “Pila”. I was immediately entranced by the song but unfortunately, I forgot to take a mental note of the band who sang it. Earlier this year though, after forgetting all about it, the elder (okay, they’re not THAT old) members of Higad Productions decide to invite a band named Luna’s to play for an acoustic gig. Who would have known I’d hear “Pila” again…LIVE. I got all excited that I found them! So directly after their set, I immediately asked them if they were willing to perform during a STS’s launch. I guess that earns fate a big YEEY since now, Luna’s will be playing on the 25th of February at Route 196 during Solve the System’s Production Launch!

3. Actually Not Here

anh

Here’s another band that will give you awesome music during that wind-blowing-in-your-hair-while-speeding-down-edsa-with-your-friends-at-three-in-the-morning-after-a-chill-weekday-inuman moment. I’m not going to dwell on how I found out about this band though. HAHA. Most of my followers already know why anyway. Let’s just say I’ve been there since the start. Unfortunately, these boys have been oh so secretive about their music and only a selected few have a copy of their demos. DO NOT FRET THOUGH! Their first single will be released soon. OHYEYEEHH! But let me tell you something to keep you on your toes, the energy and the soul of this band when you see them perform live definitely will make you “come back for more”. And yes, they will also be playing on the 25th so, GO GO GO! I better see you there.

4. Jensen Gomez

jensen

Listening to this guy. OH DEAR LORD. My heart. I have yet to get a hold of his tracks (since I have to buy his EP and I’m pretty broke #SaveOPM) but after listening to Jensen’s Alone and Not Even Close awhile ago in the car I knew he just had to be added to this list. The sound of my heart breaking into a bazillion pieces was in complete tandem with Alone. It felt like a duet! HAHA. It just speaks, I guess. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not a bad thing! It’s the honesty in his songs that make his music so heartfelt. This guy has the experience of Adele, the style of Urbandub and the voice of…okay you know what…I can’t really peg his voice yet but whatever, it’s still amazing. I can’t wait for his album. (My birthday is on the 12th of April…EHEMM, His album launch is this April.  #LamNa)
